The Climate Risk Index 2025 Report was released during the first half of this year. The report mentions that from 1993 to 2022, more than 765,000 people lost their lives due to extreme weather conditions. 2024 saw extreme weather events like torrential rains, deadly heat waves, floods, and hurricanes. The year 2024 had the hottest day ever in July.
The Climate Risk Index (CRI) Ranks countries by the human and economic effects of extreme weather events. The most affected country is ranked first and the least affected country will have the lowest rank. Dominica, China, Honduras, Myanmar, Italy, and India were the most affected countries from 1993 to 2022. For the year 2022 CRI top 10 countries were Pakistan, Belize, Italy, Greece, Spain, Puerto Rico, USA, Nigeria, Portugal and Bulgaria.

In the year 2022, Heat Waves caused most of the fatalities at the global level while drought affected most people. The table below provides the fatalities and the affected people in the year 2022.

Climate Change consequences in the form of heat waves, storms, hurricanes, floods, cyclones, and droughts affect human lives. The effects are fatalities, injuries, displacements, crop failures, economic losses, loss of shelters, and so on. The preparedness for the expected extreme events can reduce the overall effect on the lives of humans and animals.
